Font Converter

Drop in font files, pick the format you need, and download the conversions. TTF and OTF convert to WOFF2 and WOFF; WOFF and WOFF2 convert back to the desktop formats they came from. Everything runs in your browser, so the files never upload anywhere, there is no account, and a whole family converts in one pass.

What conversion changes, and what it does not

TTF, OTF, WOFF and WOFF2 are containers. WOFF and WOFF2 wrap a desktop font in compression for the web; converting between a desktop format and its web wrappers moves the same tables into a different envelope, and WOFF2 round-trips losslessly. Converting never subsets, never re-hints and never touches the outlines, the kerning or the OpenType features: the font that comes out is the font that went in, wearing a different coat. File sizes change because the compression changes, most dramatically into WOFF2.

The one conversion this tool declines is TTF to OTF or back. Those two differ inside, not outside: TrueType fonts draw with quadratic outlines and CFF fonts with cubic ones, so swapping them means redrawing every glyph's curves, a real conversion with real fidelity choices that belongs in a font editor (ourguide to converting font formats covers what survives it). Rows that ask for it say so, with the reason, instead of quietly producing a damaged font.

One curve in its quadratic and cubic forms: a single off-curve control point becomes two on the same handles, the file grows from 193 KB to 416 KB, and the TrueType hinting instructions are dropped.

Which tool do you actually need?

If the end goal is a font running on a website, the kit matters more than the file: the Webfont Generator converts and also writes the @font-face CSS, checks embedding permissions and packages a demo. If the file is simply too big, theFont Subsetter removes the characters you do not need, which shrinks a font far more than any format change. This converter is for the plain job: this font, that format, nothing else.
