Berlin-trained typesetter — a student of Berthold's Günter Gerhard Lange who worked for Stempel and Monotype — with a parallel commercial career (FF Spontan, FF Quill) and a vast freeware output under the Fonteria name: hundreds of faces, from blackletters to novelty alphabets.
The freeware began as salvage: fonts made in the '90s for a commercial CD compilation that fell through, given away in 2001. His license doubled as a philosophy — free for private and charity use, and commercial users who profited were asked to donate to charity. He designed into old age and died in 2018; his catalog remains one of FontSpace's largest single-designer collections.
