font.io Freeware License (Commercial Use)
Version 1.0 · Published by font.io · All font.io licenses
A short, plain-language license for designers who give their fonts away for everything, business use included, and want the font itself to stay free forever. Commercial work needs no permission and no fee. Modification is allowed under rename-and-mark rules borrowed from the open font world, repairs and added characters are expressly welcome, and the one hard line is the oldest in freeware: you may sell your work made with the font, never the font itself.

You can
- Use it free for personal AND commercial work: logos, branding, ads, products, client work
- Modify it for your own use
- Fix errors and add missing characters (marked repairs keep the name)
- Embed it anywhere, including webfonts on your own site
- Convert between formats (TTF, OTF, WOFF, WOFF2)
- Pass the original package on, free and unchanged
- Credit is welcome, never required
You cannot
- Sell the font itself, alone or bundled
- Distribute a modified version without renaming it and marking the changes
- Use the author's name to endorse your work
- Offer the raw font as a download outside the original package
That summary is a guide. The license below is the agreement.
The license
1. What you get
You may install and use this font on your own computers and devices under the terms of this license. The license is free, non-exclusive, and revocable as described in clause 8. Copyright and all ownership stay with the author. This license grants no rights in the author's name, the font's name, or any trademark, and using the font does not mean the author endorses you or your work.
2. Personal and commercial use are both free
You may use this font for personal and commercial work, with no permission to seek and no fee to pay. That includes: earn money or carry advertising; You are selling your own work made with the font, and that is fine. What you may not sell is the font itself (clause 6). A credit line naming the author is welcome but not required.
- logos, branding, and business stationery;
- websites, blogs, channels, and accounts, including ones that
- apps, games, books, film, video, and other media, sold or free;
- products and merchandise offered for sale;
- work done for clients or an employer.
3. Modifying the font
You may modify this font for your own use. You may also repair it and extend it: fixing errors in its character map, name tables, embedding settings, metrics, or glyphs, and adding characters it is missing, in keeping with its existing design. Correcting embedding settings that contradict this license, as many older fonts do by mistake, is a repair under this clause; the bits may be set to match this license, never to claim more than it gives. A repaired or extended version may keep the original name, as long as it states, in its readme or license file, that it was repaired or extended, what was changed, and who changed it. You may distribute any other modified version only if all of the following hold: version, and who modified it; made or endorses the modified version.
- it carries a clearly different font name;
- it states, in its readme or license file, that it is a modified
- it is released under this same license;
- it does not use the original author's name to suggest the author
4. Format conversion is allowed
You may convert this font between formats (including TTF, OTF, WOFF, WOFF2, SVG, and EOT) under this same license, provided the glyphs and data are otherwise unchanged by the conversion itself and a copy of this license stays with the converted file.
5. Embedding
You may embed this font in documents, such as PDFs, on websites, including serving it with @font-face from your own site, and in apps and games, subsetted where your tools allow, so long as the embedding does not let recipients extract or install the font as a standalone file. Do not offer the raw font file as a download except as the original package under clause 6.
6. Passing it on
You may give the original, unmodified package (the font files together with this license and any readme the author included) to another person free of charge, and font archives and websites may redistribute that same unmodified package free of charge. Do not sell this font or charge for the package, alone or bundled with other goods where the font itself is part of what is being sold.
7. Names and endorsement
Beyond the naming rule for modified versions in clause 3, nothing in this license lets you use the author's name or the font's name to advertise your own products or services.
8. If you break these terms
Your rights under this license end automatically if you break any of its terms. Delete your copies of the font if that happens.
9. No warranty
This font is provided "as is", without any warranty, express or implied, including any warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose. To the maximum extent the law allows, the author is not liable for any claim or damages arising from the use of this font. font.io publishes the text of this license but is not a party to it and grants no rights in any font.
10. Versions
This is version 1.0 of this license. font.io may publish newer versions at the same address. A font released under this version stays under this version unless the author re-releases it under a newer one. The text that counts is the copy included with the font or cited in its readme.
Use this license for your own font
Any designer may release a font under this license, free of charge and with no registration. Put this line in the font's readme file and keep a copy of the license text with the font:
